HOMO BACTERIUM SACRUM

Bacteria Cultivated from Holy Water. Collected from the fonts of ten different churches in the Silesian Voivodeship.

Cultivation period: 4 months.

This work reflects on human nature, understood as a space of tension between the pursuit of moral purity and the inevitable imperfection of the human condition. The starting point is holy water - a carrier of the symbolism of the sacred, purification, and transcendence. The bacteria cultivated from it function as material evidence of the presence of a “stain” within that which is culturally constructed as ideal.
